Kalpasara Studio bags SONA Excellence Award 2023

Kalpasara Studio has been honored with the Society of Nepali Architects (SONA) Excellence Award for the year 2023 in the interior design category, commemorating the 33rd SONA Day.

 Sita Gurung, the Minister for Urban Development, presented the award to architect Sushmita Ranjit, co-founder and certified hotel planner and designer from Cornell University in the USA, during a special ceremony in Kathmandu. In a statement, Gunjan Shrestha, the Operations Head of Kalpasara Studio, remarked, “This award serves as recognition for our work in interior design for Naya Aayam Multi-Disciplinary Institute (NAMI), which is being developed as Nepal’s premium educational institution. NAMI offers BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, BBA, BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science, and MSc in Computing in collaboration with the University of Northampton, United Kingdom. This accolade has not only motivated us but also inspired us to pursue similar projects in the future,” shared Shrestha.

 

One of the most notable projects is Meghauli Serai – A Taj Safari, a five-star jungle resort located in Meghauli, Chitwan district. It was designed in collaboration with South African interior designer Jacqui Shapiro, representing Full TurnKey, where we served as the local consultant for the project,” reads the statement “It was a challenging project as we had to undertake the interior design of the property while considering the local Tharu culture, traditions, and heritage,” said Sushmita Ranjit. She referred to the painstaking time spent with local artisans, understanding the aesthetic value through the utilization of local skills and craftsmen, to incorporate the rich Tharu culture and heritage into her design, as mentioned in the statement. Architect Sushmita Ranjit, CEO, and Co-Founder of Kalpasara Studio, a Cornell certified in Interior Design, stated, “Our work has been focused on creating modern architectural designs while keeping Nepali traditional art and culture intact.” Since its inception in 2012, Kalpasara Studio has been involved in interior design projects, focusing primarily on the hospitality and educational sectors across the country, including the upliftment of the front desk of Subhashree College, Xavier Academy, and the design of Urja Developers Pvt Ltd Corporate Office, among others.
